A Long Island man was driving drunk with his infant daughter in the car, Suffolk County police charged Monday.
The 21-month-old girl wasn't harmed but her father was charged with driving with a child while intoxicated, which is felony punishable up to four years in prison under New York state's tough Leandra's Law.
Officers also charged Milton Vasquez, 27, of Lafayette Street in Huntington, with endangering the welfare of a child.
Police say they saw Vasquez driving a 1998 Nissan Altima erractically while eastbound on Pulaski Road in Huntington Station about 11 p.m. Sunday. Police pulled him over and arrested him.
He's scheduled for arraignment Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Leandra's Law, also called the Child Passenger Protection Act, is named for 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, killed in October 2009 during a car crash on the Hudson River Parkway.
Her friend's mother was driving drunk and speeding while taking Leandra and six friends to a slumber party. They all survived except Leandra, who was thrown from the car when it flipped, suffering fatal head and chest injuries. The driver, Carmen Huertas, was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison.
