Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York City apartment on Sunday, due to an apparent drug overdose, according to police sources. He was 46.
An accomplished actor and director on stage and screen, Hoffman's legacy runs the gamut of pop culture. From his performance as the brash music critic Lester Bangs in Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous" to his Oscar-winning performance in "Capote," Hoffman embodied the characters he portrayed.
As news of his death spread, stars, friends and celebrities shared their thoughts of his passing on Twitter, calling him a "beautiful soul," "great" and "brilliant."
