In a move sure to elicit tears from the downtown fashion set, Lyell -- the gamine brand that has attracted a cult-like following among many fashion folks -- is closing the doors of its Nolita boutique and shuttering the line entirely.
Designer Emma Fletcher has been running the line and the boutique for seven years -- even creating a collaboration with Urban Outfitters called Fletcher that's still available on Urban's website -- and announced the news in a heartbreaking post on Lyell's site: "So after seven years and with a lease that is running out, I have decided to say goodbye for now. Lyell is my heart and soul. I couldn't have come as far as I have come with out all the loyal support that I've received over the years."
The good news (if one can call it that) is that the store is kicking off a closeout sale, with goods discounted 40-60 percent off until the store runs out of stock. So at the very least, we'll be able to wear more Lyell this summer.
Lyell is located at 173 Elizabeth Street.
