Accessories emporium Verve will be closing its West Village Bleecker Street boutique Sunday, March 28, according to the Shophound, but will keep business going with the Upper West Side location and the original shoe store a block down on Bleecker.
Having personally experienced the West Village real estate shut-out, it's really no surprise that a small-scale shop like Verve failed to renew its lease on Bleecker between West 10th and Charles. The inevitable, bittersweet result, of course, is a clearance sale with discounts up to 80 percent to clear merch before the doors close for good next week. It's only a matter of time before the space is filled by a shop that can pay the rent, most likely -- we fear -- something of the national chain variety.
