Jean-Paul Gaultier first collaborated with recycled-plastic footwear maker Melissa back in 1982, when such partnerships were truly unique. After over 20 years, the designers have joined forces again to create a truly eye-catching heel for Spring 2010, rendered in cheery orange.
Over the years, Brazilian sustainable shoemaker Melissa has collaborated with a number of talents -- from Alexandre Herchcovitch to Vivienne Westwood, though we've become accustomed to the plastic shoes' ballet slipper or chunky wedge look. Frankly, this slick strappy heel has a far cooler, almost futuristic look to it that's appealing in a way only Gaultier could probably have imagined. The shoes will become available in early 2010.
Melissa Shoes are available at Kaight (83 Orchard Street).
