Designer Kazushi Ota has just reopened his under-the-radar shop, 8.15 August Fifteenth in Tribeca, gathering all his private-label wares -- which are also sold at Barneys -- in one unassuming bulkhead downtown.
Along with assistant Reiko Horii, who designs womenswear for the brand, Ota has created a reliable label of sharply tailored, classic silhouettes in casual chic menswear -- all residing among handmade decor and antiques in a charming, 300-square-foot space. Tribeca Citizen got a great view of the store's interior, and also got the scoop on the significance behind the store's name: "I found and got this space on Aug. 15 2006," Ota said. "I knew it was the day in 1945 was the day World War II officially ended in Japan and found the first day of the Woodstock festival in 1969."
8.15 August Fifteenth is located at 184 Franklin Street.
